Volunteer opportunities

Are you on a long trip and looking to spend some time at a chilled out, nature focused, eco-hostel with great food? We are looking for fun loving social people to help out in a guest facing role in our hostel. You will help with breakfasts, check-ins, check outs, the family style dinner, working the bar and most importantly creating a great atmosphere for the guest. There is plenty of down time during the day to swim, lounge in hammocks, and just relax. As a volunteer we’ll provide a bed in the dorm or a hammock if the dorm is full, limited breakfast, and a family style dinner on the nights you work. On your days off if you join us for dinner it will be 50% off and all drinks are discounted. You do have access to the kitchen to cook for yourself as well. Ideally you will work with another volunteer as a pair and you work 4 days on 3 days off but this depends on the current number of volunteers. You will also have access to our kayaks before the 3 PM Sunset Tour. We ask for a one month minimum commitment but longer stays are encouraged.

We have a 1.75 acre property on Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua and are building an organic farm and small hostel. We are located 2.5 km passed Balgue in Punta Gorda. The Santa Cruz/Balgue area of Ometepe is a hot spot for eco-tourism on the Maderas Volcano. We are a bit off the beaten path and are working to attract guests who are looking something outside of the Lonely Planet experience.

We are Trevor and Rachael, from the US. We first arrived in Nicaragua in 2011. We returned to Nicaragua in April 2016 after an absence of 1 1/2 years with our baby Aurora. We drove a converted school bus from Rhode Island, USA to Ometepe and are now currently living in the bus while we build a house out of cob. We are focusing on green building methods using renewable materials and minimal to no concrete. In addition to our bus we rent a fleet of 8 kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards, have a concrete free bamboo dormitory that sleeps 8, a hammock dorm, a private room and space to camp. For the restaurant we have a standard kitchen and a cob kitchen, and a rancho that serves as our restaurant/bar area. While we were gone our gardeners focused on planting so we have lot’s of young fruit tress and now we are working on some vegetable gardens. We have also have chickens for eggs, 3 dogs, and 2 cats. We’re still building and growing daily so every day is a new adventure!

We would love for you to come help us and live the dream!
